What to Do When You’re Feeling Defeated
Nothing was more defeating than being athletic and in shape my entire life, just to wake up one day and feel completely unrecognizable in my own body.
I was still getting up early. Still training hard. Still eating the way I always had. And I had nothing to show for it. The muscle I spent years building was disappearing. The weights I used to move without thinking felt heavier than they should. I started avoiding mirrors and certain clothes, showing up to the gym and going through the motions because I genuinely didn’t know what else to do.
I worked with coaches whose programs stopped working for me. I spent thousands on doctors who dismissed my symptoms and sent me home with nothing. I wanted to walk away from all of it.
If you’re at that point right now, I need you to know you are in exactly the right place.
After 40, your body isn’t being difficult, but it operates on a completely different, NEW set of rules. Hormonal shifts, metabolic changes, and how your body responds to stress and recovery all change. And if your training and nutrition don’t change with them, you stay stuck no matter how hard you work. That’s not a willpower problem. That’s a strategy problem.
Why Going It Alone Makes It Harder
One of the biggest mistakes I see women make when they’re feeling defeated is trying to figure it out by themselves. They pull back, go quiet, and grind in isolation, hoping something will eventually click.
But what ACTUALLY moves the needle? Community.
Research published in the British Journal of Health Psychology found that people who exercised with a partner or group were significantly more consistent and reported higher motivation than those who trained alone (https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/bjhp.12139). When you’re surrounded by women who are in it with you, who understand the frustration of working hard and not seeing results, who celebrate the small wins and remind you why you started on the hard days, everything changes.
Women who train in supportive communities are more consistent, more focused, and see better results than those who go it alone. That’s not just what I believe. That’s what the research shows and what I’ve watched happen with thousands of women inside my programs.
Even the Best Athletes Have Coaches
Here’s something every experienced lifter needs to hear: having a training history doesn’t mean you don’t need guidance. In fact, the more experienced you are, the more specific and strategic your programming needs to be. The blind spots that experienced lifters carry into midlife are real, and they’re quietly sabotaging results. You can read more about that here.
The best athletes in the world have coaches. Not because they don’t know what they’re doing, but because you cannot coach yourself the way someone else can coach you.
This Is Where Midlife Muscle Makeover Comes In
Midlife Muscle Makeover is 21 days, $47, and built specifically for the woman who never stopped showing up but stopped seeing results. It’s not a beginner program. It’s not a crash diet. It’s a proven system designed around how your body actually works after 40, with the community and coaching to back it up.
I built this program because I lived the defeat and found the other side of it. And I want that for you too.
