Here's what Nobody told you about Menopause Weight Gain
Menopause Weight Gain: What No One Told Us
I remember waking up one day, looking in the mirror, and not even recognizing the woman staring back at me.
I was the heaviest I had ever been. My body felt foreign, like it didn’t belong to me anymore.
I hid from friends. I dodged photos. I didn’t want anyone to see me because I didn’t even want to see myself...
How did this happen? I thought to myself.
I was always in shape. I ate the right foods. I trained hard. I never struggled with my weight before.
And yet, here I was… feeling like everything I had ever done was now working against me.
I never thought this could happen to me.
To be honest, I thought menopause was a myth (LOL). I thought it was just something people exaggerated about. Gosh, how was I ever wrong!
And had I known what was coming, I would have prepared sooner.
Menopause Weight Gain Isn’t Your Fault—But Here’s Why It Happens
If you’re reading this, chances are you feel exactly how I felt.
Your body isn’t responding the way it used to. The scale keeps creeping up, especially around your belly.
You’re eating less, working out more and yet nothing is changing...
And it’s frustrating as hell! 😡
Please remember, this isn’t your fault.
Menopause completely shifts the way your body works. And if no one prepared you for it? You’re not alone.
Here’s what’s really happening:
👉 Your metabolism slows down – Your body naturally burns fewer calories, especially if you’ve lost muscle over the years. And what do most women do when the weight starts creeping on?
They eat less. They train harder. They do more cardio.
Which only speeds up muscle loss and slows the metabolism down even further.
What I Changed: Instead of focusing on eating less, I focused on building muscle. Muscle is the key to keeping your metabolism high and your body lean.
👉 Your hormones shift (hello, belly fat) – As estrogen drops, your body starts storing fat in new places—especially around the midsection aka meno belly.
👉 Eating less backfires – Cutting calories too low slows your metabolism even more and makes your body hold onto fat. At one point, I was eating 1,200 calories a day and wondering why I felt exhausted, bloated, and STILL wasn’t losing weight.
Turns out, my body was in survival mode.
When you eat too little for too long, your body slows down fat burning and clings to stored fat—because it thinks food is scarce.
What I Changed: I increased my calories strategically (yes, I ate MORE), and my body finally started responding. Reverse dieting was a game-changer.
👉 Cardio isn’t enough – Too much cardio can actually make things worse by increasing stress hormones and breaking down muscle.
👉 Cortisol & stress take over – Midlife brings hormonal chaos, sleep issues, and stress, all of which increase fat storage.
Sound familiar?
I didn’t know any of this when I was going through it. No one told me. I had to figure it out the hard way.
But now? I know exactly how to stop it.
How I Took Control (And How You Can Too)
It took a ton of trial, error, and a lot of frustration to figure this out on my own.. But once I understood what was happening to my body, everything changed.
I stopped wasting time on what used to work and started focusing on what actually works for women in midlife.
Here’s what I did:
✅ I focused on strength training – Instead of killing myself with cardio, I started lifting heavy weights. This helped me build muscle and revive my metabolism.
✅ I ate MORE (not less) – I stopped starving myself and strategically increased my calories. Reverse dieting helped reset my metabolism.
✅ I prioritized protein – I started fueling my body with high-protein meals to support muscle growth and keep my hormones balanced.
Nobody Prepared Us for Menopause Weight Gain… But I Refuse to Let You Struggle Like I Did
I had to figure this out alone. But you don’t have to.
If you feel lost, frustrated, and like nothing is working, I get it—because I was there too.
I didn't have a fairy godmother to sit me down and say "“Hey, just so you know… the way you’ve been training and eating your whole life? It’s about to stop working.” I spent years searching for answers that didn’t exist. Trying to “fix” my body with strategies that no longer worked.
You don’t need to eat less. You don’t need to kill yourself with cardio. You just need the right approach.
