Deshnie's Midlife Comeback Story

At 42, she didn’t just want to lose weight. She wanted a complete recomposition of her body, her mindset, and her identity.

Skinny Fat - just getting started

Deshnie joined us in September 2024, after a year filled with emotional upheaval—relocating from South Africa to California, grieving the loss of family, and adjusting to a completely new life, environment, and food culture. Despite it all, she came in with a vision: drop 40 lbs, build visible abs, and step on stage for a physique competition.

This wasn’t her first attempt. She had worked with a trainer before and had been through a past eating disorder where she smoked, drank coffee to suppress hunger, and binged through bulimic cycles. But she was done playing small and giving into her own mind games.

The Transformation

Deshnie started at:

  • 160 lbs

  • 33% body fat

  • Waist: 38” | Hips: 41”

Now currently at:

  • 132 lbs

  • 25% body fat

  • Waist: 36” | Hips: 34”

She dropped 28 pounds, lost 8% body fat, and took back 7 inches from her waist and hips combined. Holy smokes! And we're just getting started.

But numbers only tell half the story.

What the Scale Couldn’t Show

Deshnie was dealing with a storm of hormonal issues—high cortisol, low thyroid function, estrogen dominance, and low testosterone. Sleep was broken. Energy was tanked. Her body felt like it was fighting her.

With our hormone-first strategy, we adjusted her macros, implemented carb cycling, and gradually worked her calories up to support her training. And we trained smart. Progressive overload, structured splits, and recovery strategies that worked with her physiology—not against it.

She stayed compliant through holidays, stress, sickness, and even exam weeks (yes, she was studying on top of everything). And despite all that, she never lost focus.

"I feel positive about everything, happy about even the little things. Clothing is very loose, especially at the waist. That makes me super happy."

It wasn’t just about looking better.
It was about reclaiming who she is.
