Why Chasing “Perfect” Is Sabotaging Your Results

Progress Over Perfection

April 09, 20254 min read

Ever feel like if you can’t do something perfectly, you’d rather not do it at all?

Same. That mindset lived rent-free in my head for years.

As someone with ADHD and someone who always wanted to be the best at everything, I felt like if I couldn’t follow the plan 100%, it wasn’t even worth starting.

Because I was so used to setting the bar sky high, go all in for a few days… and the second I slipped up, I’d spiral. Missed a workout? Off-plan meal? Suddenly, I was questioning everything. And that pressure to do it all perfectly eventually turned into something heavier: imposter syndrome.

Truth is, I wasn't failing. I was just expecting perfection. And perfection is the fastest way to feel like a failure, even when you’re actually making progress.

This mindset is exactly what keeps so many women stuck. I lived in that cycle for years.

Because if it’s not perfect, it feels like it doesn’t count. But here’s what I learned (the hard way)...

Control What You Can

Perfectionism doesn’t equal discipline, it equals burnout. I realized control doesn’t mean perfection—it means preparation.

The Problem With Perfectionism

The "perfect" plan doesn’t exist.

Life is always going to throw curveballs. Work stress, family drama, injuries, vacations, hormones, lack of sleep, you name it. And if you’re only committed when everything is ideal, you’ll never stay consistent long enough to see results.

The women I coach who get the BEST results? They mess up. They miss workouts. They eat off plan. But they all get back on track and keep going.

That’s what real progress looks like.

Why Consistency Beats Perfection Every Time

Small, consistent habits practiced over time are more powerful than occasional perfection. This is called the compound effect: your little actions stack up day after day.

Skipping one workout or having a treat meal isn’t the issue. It’s the guilt spiral that follows when you think, "Well I already messed up, so I might as well give up until Monday."

Sound familiar?

Stop Starting Over Every Monday

One of the biggest mindset shifts I teach in my programs is this:

Missing one thing doesn’t mean you failed everything.

You don’t need to be perfect to get results. You need to stay in the game, even when it gets messy. That’s where true transformation happens.

Perfection on Vacation? Let’s Talk About It.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is this idea that vacation = letting it all go.

"I’m on vacation, so I get to drink whatever, eat whatever, skip workouts, and totally disconnect from my goals."

Listen, I’m ALL for enjoying life. But if your mindset is that this lifestyle only exists when you’re “on,” then it’s not a lifestyle change.

If you TRULY want this body, this strength, this energy... you shouldn’t feel the need to escape from your habits.

The goal is to live in a way you love so much, you don’t want a break from it.

That means fueling your body even while traveling. That means making room for movement even when you’re away. That means being intentional with your choices...not because you “have to,” but because you want to feel GOOD and you will do anything to continue feeling that way.

Bloated? Fatigued? Sluggish? That’s not worth the extra drink or junk food.

How I Stay on Track When Traveling (Without Being a Psycho About It)

✅ I bring my portable blender for protein shakes
✅ I pack my own snacks because 1) I hate feeling bloated, and 2) $12 for airport almonds? No thanks.
✅ I look up restaurants ahead of time and already know what I’m ordering
✅ First thing I ask when we book a trip: “Where’s the gym?”
✅ I even hit local gyms if the hotel one sucks (which they usually do! Sorry, not sorry)

And you know what? I’m not miserable. I’m not restricting myself. I’m not obsessed.
I’m just setting myself up for success because I want to feel good...on vacation and after.

This lifestyle works because it travels with me. I don’t need to escape from it. I’m excited to maintain it.

This Is a Lifestyle, Not a Phase

If you want long-term results, you have to stop treating your health like a temporary project. The real transformation comes from integrating these habits into who you are.

It doesn’t mean you’ll always be perfect. It means you won’t quit just because you aren’t.

You can be consistent even when life gets messy. You can work out while traveling. You can make better choices without needing to be perfect.

You can still enjoy life without sacrificing your goals.

Progress over Perfection.

It’s the only way real women like you get real results.

So the next time you think about quitting because your day didn’t go as planned, remind yourself:

Perfection is the enemy of progress. And progress is what transforms your life.

You don’t need another "restart." You need to keep going.

Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s slow. Even if it’s not perfect.

Because that’s exactly how you win.
